Age 75, Hickory, N.C.
David Dwight “Skip” Armstrong Sr., of Hickory, N.C. passed away on May 1, 2023. Born in Luray, Va. on February 8, 1948, he was the son of Isaac Granville Armstrong and Doris Emma Ricedorf Armstrong. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Ann Armstrong.
Skip served to help others and was involved in many non-profit organizations, including Hickory Soup Kitchen, NC Boys Academy, and others where he felt the need. His ministry for the past 10 years was Saved to Serve Food Ministry. He was an active member of Hickory Bible Church, where he also served as a mentor to young men and husbands. Skip was a journeyman meat cutter and spent most of his work career in the food industry.
Skip is survived by his wife of the home, Diane Summey Armstrong; two sons, David Armstrong, Jr. and wife Rhonda of Lewisburg, TN, Randy Armstrong and wife Kris of Newton, NC; two daughters, Nancy Armstrong of Chesterfield, VA, and Crystal Frank of Savage, MD; three grand-sons, Matthew, Garrett and Ethan Armstrong, & Tristan & Sebastian Frank;three grand-daughters Carina Armstrong-Gamez, Elena Gamez and Avery Armstrong;one great-grand-daughter Aubriella Robertson; one brother Tommy Armstrong and wife Margaret of Dillwyn, VA; along with several nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Hickory Bible Church in Hickory, N.C. A receiving of family and friends will be held after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hickory Bible Church.
