Age 71, Luray, Va.

Dennis Blane Johnson, 71, of Luray, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at the Lynn Care Center in Front Royal from complications of a previous injury.

He was born on May 14, 1952, in Christiansburg and was a son of the late James Robert Johnson and Stella Dennis Johnson.

Dennis always enjoyed traveling. He visited Canada, Hawaii, Florida, Alaska and most of the lower 48 states. Whenever his parents wanted to go, he had his bags packed and was waiting in the car.

Over the years, Dennis was active in the Jaycees, Lions Club, 4-H and Special Olympics. He participated in the Special Olympics, earning many awards and metals for basketball, bowling and track. He entered his crafts in the 4-H program at the Page Valley Fair, where he won many first-place ribbons. He also liked to enter the family’s poodle, Princess, in the dog show, doing tricks with her to earn first-place ribbons.

Dennis was an honorable member of the Luray Lions Club, where most people will remember him standing with his dad in front of Food Lion collecting money for the Lions Club’s White Cane program.

Dennis is survived by a brother, James Hartwell Johnson and wife Brenda of Stanley; along with numerous cousins and friends.

Throughout his life, Dennis was more than happy to greet everyone with a hug, a handshake and a smile. He was one-of-a-kind and will be missed.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, at the Bradley Funeral Home by the Rev. Tim Scott. Burial will be in the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 on Friday, January 12, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Luray Lions Club.

The family extends thanks to the Lynn Care Center and Gentiva for the comfort and care provided to Dennis, and special thanks to Ginger and Charlie Kidwell for their care.
