Duckpin bowling honors

November 5, 1964Leroy Tomney, of Shenandoah, proprietor of the Luray Bowling Lanes, captured the 28th annual Virginia State Open Duckpin Tournament held last weekend at Health Center Lanes in Winchester by edging Billy Moore of Washington, D.C., by a single pin.

Tomney, with games of 190, 149, 121, 138, 140, 123 and 161, had a total of 1,022.

Moore had a total of 1,021.

Tomney’s first place prize was $250.

Sonny Chrisman, who has bowled in quite a number of Luray tournaments, was Winchester’s top bowler last week in the state open tourney with a score of 965, tying him for ninth place.
