Earl “Bouser” Smith, 79, of Luray, passed away on July 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
He was born in Luray on April 13, 1947, to the late Lester and Freda Virginia Price Smith.
Earl dedicated 36 years of his life to working at Wrangler, earning the respect of those around him through his strong work ethic and quiet determination.
After retiring, Earl spent his days doing the things that brought him the greatest joy. He loved woodworking, where his hands crafted pieces that will continue to remind his family of him for years to come. He found peace tending his garden and looked forward to camping trips. Above all, Earl treasured time spent with his family.
On June 30, 2001, Earl married the love of his life, Sandy Abbott, at their farmhouse. Though they officially married in 2001, they shared more than 40 wonderful years together, building a life centered on love, laughter, and family. Together they blended their families and created countless cherished memories.
Earl is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy; his children, Earl (Gail) Smith Jr., Teresa (Greg) Griffith, Lisa (Johnny) Snyder, Daniel (Stephanie) Smith, Michelle (Mike) Propes, Misty (Kevin) Hansen, and Lori Abbott. He also leaves behind a family of grandchildren, Samantha (Jordan) Sullivan, Cecilia (Charles) Atwood, Chris (Nevaeh) Griffith, Jonathan (Christen) Snyder, Morgan (Sam) Blosser, Nick Snyder, Dylan Smith, Whitney (Lincoln) McQuillan, Aaron (Morgan) Propes, Sydney and Dustin Deeds.
He adored his great-grandchildren, Jackson, Brianna, Jace, Oliva, Kayleigh, Nicole, Kaitlyn, Easton, Evelyn, Kennedy and Henry.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Hazel “Granny” Spitzer, Ella Mae “Susie” Short, Raymond “Tom” Smith, and Barbra Ann “Cry Baby” Cubbage.
Earl will be remembered not only for the life he lived but for the love he freely gave. He had a gentle heart, a kind spirit, and a playful sense of humor. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren could always count on him for a joke, a smile, or a little playful teasing that would leave everyone laughing. He had a way of making people feel welcome, cared for, and loved simply by being himself.
His family finds comfort in knowing that while his earthly journey has ended, the memories he created, the lessons he taught, and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
His legacy is one of faithfulness, hard work, generosity, and unconditional love, a legacy that will never be forgotten.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 27, at the Bradley Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior to the service, from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray.
