Age 95, Shenandoah, Va.
Ernest Jennings Richards, 95, of Shenandoah, Va., passed away October 21, 2023, at his home. He was born May 13, 1928 in Page County and was the son of the late Franklin “Doc” and Esther Pearl Turner Richards.
Mr. Richards served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. He was a professional painting contractor for the majority of his working career. He had a great interest in boating, especially on the Potomac River, and tinkering with automotive restoration.
On June 4, 1949, Ernest married the former Virginia Louise Carper, who preceded him in death on May 12, 2014.
Surviving are five sons, Robert “Bob” Richards, Terry Richards and wife, Belinda, David “Scott” Richards, Mark Richards and wife, Judith, and Christopher Richards Sr. and wife, Tammy; two daughters, Bobi Ciccolella and husband, Joe and Kay Allen and husband, Gary; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis Richards and Eugene Richards and a grandson, Michael Cumm.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. Ellen Hensley Martin officiating. Burial to follow at George Comer Cemetery in the Fleeburg area of Page County.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
