December 16, 1965 — A violation of the Virginia High School League’s sportsmanship code has resulted in the Page County High School being declared ineligible for championship competition until further notice according to an edict of the Executive Committee issued last week.

Immediate cause of the ruling was an incident at the Page County-Broadway game of Nov. 5 when spectators attacked a game official, but said the VHSL Committee, “this was not an isolated incident for Page County and that unpleasant situations had arisen from time to time with athletic contests ranging from Front Royal to Elkton.”

A VHSL spokesman said Page County teams will be allowed to participate in Group II District 10 activities and all games will be counted in the standings, but Page County will not be allowed to take part in any tournaments or meets that determine the district champion.

“While on probation,” the VHSL statement said, “Page County High School will be required to submit a plan of action showing that legal steps will be taken should spectators at future events physically attack an official or any other parties connected with a league-sponsored event.”
