May 13, 1965 — A large barn at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Kibler, west of the Shenandoah River, near the electric dam was destroyed by fire about noon Wednesday. Origin of the fire was undetermined.
The Luray Fire Department answered the alarm at 11:50 a.m. with a pumper and a new 1,600-gallon water tank truck. Although the barn was located only about two miles from Luray, the firemen had to go by way of the Bixler’s Ferry bridge to reach the scene.
When firemen arrived, the barn was a mass of flames and could not be saved.
A number of sheds and outbuildings near the barn ignited from the heat and these were saved by the firemen pumping from the tank truck.
It is reported that none of the Kibler family was at home at the time. No estimate of the loss was available immediately.
