Firemen called to RV fire

March 7, 1991 — Firefighters battled a blaze in the Luray Caverns parking lot, just after 5 p.m. Sunday.

According to Luray Fire Chief Dan Seal, a 1989 Coach 40 recreational vehicle, caught fire within five to 10 minutes after Robert Breining of Concord, N.H., arrived at the Caverns. Breining and several passengers were in the reception area waiting to go into the caverns when the fire started.

A short in the battery wiring to the auxiliary generator caused the fire, Seal said. Estimated damage was between $30,000 and $35,000, Seal said.
