January 14, 1965 — The first snow of any consequence this winter began falling here early Sunday morning and lasted throughout most of the day.
The State Highway Department’s local office reported that the snow reached a depth of nine inches. The wintry weather was preceded by rain and sleet which turned to snow as temperatures dropped.
Sunday’s highway traffic was slowed down considerably by the accumulation of snow and slush. All secondary highways in the county were reported open Monday evening with the possible exception of a section of road in Basin Hollow which is under construction. Mud was creating a problem there.
