Age 84, Luray, Va.
Frances “Kay” Broyles Sedwick Mims, 84, of Luray, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Winchester Medical Center.
She was born on August 8, 1941, in Page County and was a daughter of the late Lester and Grace Lillard Broyles.
Kay was a graduate of Luray High School Class of 1960 and a member of the Main Street Baptist Church in Luray, where she was a Sunday school teacher for the nursery class in the 1960s and 1970s. She was also a member of the Shenandoah National Park Foundation in the 1970s.
Kay worked in the business office at Page Memorial Hospital from 1960-1964, and was a secretary for Dr. Holsinger from 1967-1971. In 1979, she joined the Commissioner of Revenue’s office. She was Chief Deputy from 1986 until her retirement in 2003.
Kay was a member of the Page County Republican Committee and served as treasurer from 1983-2003.
On August 23, 1963, Frances married Melvin Moody Sedwick, who died on May 29, 1982.
Frances is survived by her husband, Phillip E. Mims, whom she married on March 14, 1986; a son, David Sedwick and wife Jami; a brother, Edwin Broyles and wife Mary; a sister, Janice Comer; four grandchildren, Sarah Kling and husband Josh, Alyssa Sedwick, Benjamin Sedwick and Matthew Sedwick; and a great-granddaughter, Claire Kling.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 3, at the Bradley Funeral Home by Pastor Josh Parlett. Burial will be in the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Luray Volunteer Fire Department or to the Luray Volunteer Rescue Squad.
