~ PVN staff report

LURAY, March 28 — At 5 p.m. on Tuesday, the Luray Police Department arrested a local man caught on camera defacing structures with graffiti along the Luray-Hawksbill Greenway about 17 to 20 hours earlier.

Damian Roberts faces multiple charges of destruction of property at multiple locations, according to a report the LPD issued yesterday on its Facebook page.

On Tuesday, the LPD notified the public through the social media site that: “LPD Officers are investigating destruction of property on the Greenway, which occurred last night between the hours of 9 p.m. and 12 a.m. March 27, 2023.”

Video surveillance showed multiple images of a man spray painting several walls and a Town of Luray sign along the greenway. Police were able to identify the man in the videos and arrested Roberts just hours later. He was later released on a $10,000 unsecured bond.

Specifically, the charges placed against Roberts are related to the following:

  • Class 1 misdemeanor for destruction of property at CVS in Luray on Saturday, March 18, 2023;
  • Four felony counts of destruction of property along the greenway on Monday, March 27, 2023;
  • Nine misdemeanor counts of destruction of property long the greenway on Monday, March 27, 2023.

LPD asked residents to help identify the man in the videos. After Roberts was arrested, police sent out a message on social media: “Thank you to all who responded with tips and information.”
