Hazzard Run set for Saturday morning, weekend festival features special guests, music, bonfire

LURAY, Oct. 14 — All this weekend, Cooter’s in the Valley will be hosting its Hazzard Run 2022 featuring special guests Tom Wopat (“Luke Duke”) and Byron Cherry (“Coy Duke”), along with a car and truck show, live music, good eats and good times.

The festivities officially kick off Saturday morning with a 9 a.m. escort of General Lees and classic cars throughout the scenic Page Valley — in the heart of the historic Shenandoah Valley — beginning and ending at Cooter’s in the Valley on Route 211 just west of Luray. Vehicle registration is free.

The schedule for Hazzard Run 2022 on Saturday, Oct. 15 includes:

  • 8 a.m. — Arrive at Cooter’s
  • 8 a.m. — Caravan participants should be gathered at Cooter’s Place Luray and ready to go.
  • 9 a.m — Caravan with Police and Fire Department escort through the scenic Shenandoah Valley.
  • Afterward, those who want can join us at Shenandoah Speedway for a few laps

Back at Cooter’s, a car and truck show open to all makes and models will be hosted by the Shenandoah Valley Mustang Club of Winchester, Va. Register at the gate day of the show by noon and enter at the side road in the back. Follow signs at the venue. Registration fee is $20 per vehicle. Rain date is Sunday, Oct. 16. There will be awards for the Top 20 vehicles up to 1999, the Top 20 vehicles 2000 to present, and Best in Show. Dash plagues for the first 100 registered.

Ben Cooter Jones and Cooter’s Garage Band will perform back at Cooter’s Place Luray during the day, and then at sunset a bonfire will be lit as a big screen is set up to watch the “Dukes of Hazzard.”

Tom Wopat will be at Cooter’s on both Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15 and 16; while Bryon Cherry will make appearances from Thursday, Oct. 13 through Sunday, Oct. 16.

There will also be a special appearance by Tom Sarmento, master mechanic of the Dodge Charger known as the “General Lee”, and by Dorothy Best, actress and wife of James Best who played “Sheriff Roscoe P. Coletrane.” Both will make appearances on Saturday and Sunday.

Each special guest will be conducting meet and greets, signing autographs and taking photos at various times each day. Check the website for updates.

The event offers FREE ADMISSION to all activities and the Dukes of Hazzard Museum, featuring the garage set from the TV series and vehicles used in the show.

With trick-or-treating fast approaching, the weekend also features Cooter’s Halloween in Hazzard Costume Contest with contest rules posted on the site and prizes awarded in six different categories.
