July 18, 1908 — Evidence of the happiness and prosperity of the people of this section is attested by the fact that the half dozen livery stables in Luray (representing approximately 50 head of horses) is unable to meet the demand for horse and vehicles, especially on Sundays. On a recent Sunday evening eight livery turnouts were counted coming into Luray, over one of the main thoroughfares, all laden with merry, and apparently carefree folk.
Another item evincing the rapid rate at which the present generation is living is found in the fact that in the vicinity of Luray there are, in addition to the regular millinery bazaars, 18 seamstresses, all of whom have more work than they can do, some of them even in the “third watch of the night” turning out “finerly” of every description.
