LHS senior wins 500M, set school record, state runner-up in 300M
Luray High School junior Azmani Jackson lead a pack of 13 Bulldogs, who all posted all-state performances at the VHSL Class 1 State Indoor Track Championships held March 4-5 at Liberty University.
Jackson took first place and became a state champion in the 500 meter dash, with a time of 1:06.4 — a new school record at LHS. The junior also finished state runner-up in the 300 meter dash (36.01 seconds), just eight one-hundreds of a second behind the state champion.
Jackson also earned a third all-state medal as a member of the sixth-place 4×400 meter relay team (3:44.72), which included Daniel Frey, Qamryn McNeal and Thomas Jarvis.
During the Region 1B Indoor Track meet at the Rockingham Recreation Center in Penn Laird on Feb. 17, Jackson took first as region champion in the 300 meter dash (36.63) and second as region runner-up in the 55 meter dash (6.83 seconds); and region runner-up as part of the 4×400 relay team (3:46.58).
During the VHSL Class 2 Track and Field Championships in Harrisonburg on June 7, 2025, Jackson earned all-state status in two events to close out his sophomore campaign. He took third place in the 400 meter dash (50.49 seconds — just 1.48 seconds off the state champion); and seventh place in the 800 meter run (2:02.14). Jackson won the district (51.23) and the region (51.65) titles in the 400 meters.
