Janice Lorrain Lake Presgraves, 82, of Luray, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at her home. 

She was born on Oct. 12, 1937, in Rileyville and was a daughter of the late Robert Wilson Lake and Alvah Pearl Duncan Lake. 

Janice was employed at Hanover General Hospital until she moved to Luray in 1963, where she operated the Wee Care Christian Day Care and Preschool at her home for 44 years until she retired. Before Janice entered the nursing field, she was employed by Lana Lobell Fashions as a window decorator and model. She attended the Hildegard School of Ballet in Hanover, Pa.

Janice was a twice-published writer, a painter, quilter and a woman of many talents. She was a den mother, leader of a Chi Rho Group, a Sunday school teacher, and served as president of Little League Baseball and Midget League Football for two years. She was also a volunteer at the Life Center in Luray and a member of the Mount Carmel Regular Baptist Church.

On Sept. 18, 1955, she married James Townson Presgraves, who died on Feb. 7, 2008. They were married for 53 years.

She is survived by two sons, James T. Presgraves Jr. and Daniel W. Presgraves, both of Luray; two daughters, Stacia Renee Montgomery and husband Russell R. of Luray, and Penny Lorrain Colvin and husband Douglas of Crimora; one brother, Truman Lake of McSherrystown, Pa.; and six grandchildren, Jamie Riggs and husband Mark, Jenni McQuillan and husband Landon, Kara Turner, Mike Montgomery and wife Brittany, Shannon Atkins and husband Todd, and Zane Keith Colvin; and nine great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Presgraves, Colton and London Turner, Brody and Avery McQuillan, Blake and Cole Montgomery, and Kaden and Brooklyn Kibler.

Mrs. Presgraves was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher S. Presgraves; a brother, Charles W. Lake of Hanover, Pa.; and a daughter-in-law, Anna Lee Presgraves.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, at the Mount Carmel Regular Baptist Church by Evangelist Doug Gochenour, with visitation one hour prior to the service, from 1-2 p.m. Burial will be in the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray. 

The family will also receive friends at 528 Ellis Drive in Luray.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Edith Rebekah Lodge in her memory.
