Age 102, Bentonville, Va.

On June 13, 2026, Jeanne Mayle Montgomery of Bentonville went home to be with the Lord. Jeanne was born in London, England, on April 21, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Hector and Mabel Mayle.

During WWII, Mrs. Montgomery was a member of the British Liberation Army, where she was awarded the Bronze Star. While serving, she met her husband, Ross Montgomery. He was serving in the U.S. Army and they met at a USO dance in Brussels, Belgium.

Following WWII, Jeanne and Ross were married in 1947 and she moved to the United States to start a life and family in Oregon. They were married for 76 years and had four children, 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her youngest son, Nicholas Montgomery; and a sister, Edna “Teddy” Collins.

She is survived by two daughters, Kim Clark (Nelson) of Luray, and Jan Montgomery of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania; and a son, Chris Montgomery (Valerie) of Sarasota, Florida.

Jeanne loved to read, paint with watercolors, and raise flowers in her English-style gardens. While living on Smith Mountain Lake for nearly 40 years, Ross and she would take many walks admiring nature or troll around the lake looking at houses. Jeanne loved to swim and spend time with her family and neighbors.

In 2016, they moved to Luray to be closer to family. Ultimately, Ross and she spent their last years at Hidden Springs Senior Living with the wonderful and caring staff.

Jeanne was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Luray. The Rev. Cathy Tibbetts (retired) will be leading the Celebration of Life service on June 26 at 11 a.m. at the church.

Any donations can be made to Christ Episcopal Church or a charity of your choosing.

Arrangements are being handled by the Bradley Funeral Home in Luray, Va.
