Jesse Gene Proffitt Sr., 85, of Luray, died on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Hidden Springs Senior Living in Bentonville.
He was born on Nov. 28, 1935, in Washington County, Virginia and was a son of the late Vonnie Tracy Proffitt and Mary Barker Proffitt.
Mr. Proffitt retired as a supervisor for Fairfax County Public Works. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Luray Moose Lodge 1413 with a Pilgrim Degree of Merit.
On June 30, 1960, he married Mary Patricia Marlowe Proffitt, who died on June 10, 2007.
He is survived by two sons, Jesse Jr. and Thomas Cameron Proffitt, both of Luray; five daughters, Gail Proffitt of Baltimore, Md, Brenda Stewart, Betty L. Payton and Jessica A. Proffitt , all of Luray, and Donna L. Bailey of Remington, Va.; four sisters, Shelby Blevins, Linda Weaver, Joy Proffitt and Wanda Blevins; three brothers, Tracy, Herb and Roger Proffitt; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charlie, Bill and George Proffitt; and a granddaughter.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 2, at the Bradley Funeral Home by the Rev. Tim Dyke, along with an honors ceremony by the Loyal Order of the Moose. Burial will be in the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 1, at the funeral home.
