SALEM, Nov. 11 — After claiming the Bull Run title on Oct. 25 and the Region 2B title on Nov. 1 — where he set a new course and school record at Chrisman Field — Luray High School’s Davey Johnson improved his time by 19 seconds on Saturday at the Class 2 state cross country championship in Salem.
It would prove to be 20 seconds behind state champion Derek Mitchell, a senior at Lebanon HIgh School. However, Johnson claimed second place, state runner-up honors, for the second year in a row, as well as earning an All-State medal for the third-straight year.
Johnson posted a time of 15:59.6 in the 5000 meter run on Veterans Day at Green Hill Park in Salem.
