Lillian Billy McDaniel

Lillian Billy McDaniel passed from this life to join our Heavenly Father on December 23, 2020. She was born in Versailles Borough, McKeesport, Pa. and retired to Shenandoah, Va. from 1987 until 2002, when she moved back to Maryland to be near her children for health reasons. She was the daughter of the late Catharine and Andrew Billy, and preceding her in death was her husband of 62 years, Elwood J. McDaniel.

Surviving are her son, Gary and his wife Claudia from Laurel, Maryland, daughter Sandra and her husband Curt Callahan from Bethany Beach, Delaware, as well as daughter Kelly and her husband Michael Ryan from Columbia, Maryland. In addition, surviving are two grandsons Shane and James and many fond nieces and nephews.

Lillian graduated from Burdick Vocational High School, where she was valedictorian of her class. She worked for the National Education Association and later for the Navy Department, and then in her husband’s business. From 1959 to 1986, her husband owned and operated GEM Plumbing and Heating in West Hyattsville, Maryland, and she was Secretary/Treasurer for the business. She led and participated in many programs and activities at Ager Road UMC, where she served on the Administrative Board and taught Sunday School. After retiring and moving to Shenandoah, Virginia, Mrs. McDaniel served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Building Fund of Grove Hill UMC.

A celebration of her life will be held at Grove Hill UMC later in 2021 when it is safe to do so given the COVID-19 pandemic.   

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grove Hill UMC Maintenance Fund and may be mailed to Mrs. Crystal Gooden at 7144 Rocky Bar Road, Elkton, VA 22827.
