July 6, 1983 — It was country music time in Luray last weekend. Grand Ole’ Opry star Little Jimmy Dickens was joined by 17 country music bands in entertaining crowds at the Page Valley Fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday. The “Wild Country Music Festival” was sponsored by the Luray Moose Lodge. Dickens, an old-time favorite of country music fans, pleased the crowd with sentimental favorites.

Winner of the $700 first prize in the country band competition was Five Star Band of Harrisonburg. Second place cash prize of $200 was awarded to Larry Alger and Swingin’ Country of Charlottesville, whose leader is originally from Page County. Winning the third place and the $100 cash award was Stonebridge of Luray.
