December 9, 1965 — The Luray Bulldogs opened their 1965-66 basketball season with an impressive 70-42 victory over the Elkton Elks last Friday night at Elkton in a regular District 10 contest.
Charles Carter, a transfer from West Luray School, was the big scoring threat for Luray High as he connected for 25points. TommyNichols followed with 12 points for the Bulldogs.
Luray, showing the potential for a good basketball team, never scored less than 14 points in a single quarter and led at half-time by a score of 40-31.
Luray showed fine accuracy in shooting as the team hit on an even 50 percent of their shots.
Luray’s best scoring quarter was the second with 22 points.
