August grand jury session issues 27 indictments against 17 people

LURAY, Aug. 6 — Members of a grand jury in Page County Circuit Court issued a true bill on a total of 27 indictments handed down Wednesday, Aug. 6 on charges placed among 17 individuals.

Those indicted by the Aug. 6 grand jury include:

Aubrey Eugene Veney, of Luray, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for taking indecent liberties with a child under the age of 15, and a Class 1 misdemeanor for indecent exposure. The offense and an arrest occurred on June 13, 2025, according to court records. Veney is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025 for a hearing.

Jeremy Scott Seal, of Luray, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for entering a home to commit assault and battery, a Class 1 misdemeanor for assault and battery, and a Class 1 misdemeanor for entering property to damage. The two misdemeanor charges occurred with an arrest on May 2, 2025, according to court records. The felony charges also occurred on May 2, 2025, according to court records, with an arrest on May 21, 2025. Seal is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025 for a hearing.

Christopher Darrell Brookins, of Luray, Va. was indicted on a Class 5 felony for abduction by force or intimidation, and a Class 1 misdemeanor for driving without a license (second offense). Both offenses and an arrest occurred on June 26, 2025, according to court records. Brookins is scheduled to appear in court again at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025 to appoint counsel.

Robert Jack Smith, of Stanley, Va., was indicted on a Class 6 felony for the assault and battery of a family member (third offense). The offense and an arrest occurred on May 19, 2025, according to court records. Smith is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025 for a hearing.

Dakota Ryan Campbell, of Stanley, Va., was indicted on a Class 6 felony for a registration violation (sex offender, not Tier III, second offense). The offense occurred on Feb. 20, 2025, according to court records, with an arrest on May 27, 2025. Campbell is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025 for a hearing.

Galen Whitman Barlow Jr., of Silver Spring, Md., was indicted on a Class 6 felony for obtaining a prescription by fraud. The offense and an arrest occurred on March 14, 2022, according to court records. Barlow is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025, for a hearing.

• William Joseph Wilson, of Stanley, Va., received two direct indictments for two unclassified felonies for the distribution or sale for profit of a Schedule I/II drug. The offenses took place on April 11, 2025 and April 21, 2025, according to court records, with no arrest date listed. Wilson is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025 for a hearing.

• Sara Marie Stover, of New Market, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for the possession of a Schedule I/II drug, a Class 6 felony for eluding or disregarding police, and a Class 2 misdemeanor for driving with a revoked license (contingent on financial responsibility). All three offenses and an arrest occurred on March 5, 2025, according to court records. Stover is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025 to appoint counsel.

• Nicholas Robert Foster, of Luray, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for the possession of a Schedule I/II drug, a Class 1 misdemeanor for fleeing from law enforcement, and a Class 1 misdemeanor for trespassing after being forbidden. All three offenses and an arrest occurred on April 16, 2025, according to court records. Foster is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025 for a hearing.

• Danielle Denise Gray, of Elkton, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for the possession of a Schedule I/II drug and a Class 1 misdemeanor for failure to appear in court. The felony offense and an arrest occurred on May 1, 2025, according to court records. On Aug. 6, Gray was listed as a fugitive and a capias warrant was issued for her arrest.

• Melissa Renee Dempster, of Stanley, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for the possession of a Schedule I/II drug. The offense and an arrest occurred on April 23, 2025, according to court records. Dempster is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025 to enter a plea.

• Luis Miguel Canelas Escobar, of Harrisonburg, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for the possession of a Schedule I/II drug. The offense and an arrest occurred on April 20, 2025, according to court records. Canelas Escobar is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26, for a hearing.

• Amy Jo Johnson, of Luray, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for the possession of a Schedule I/II drug. The offense and an arrest occurred on April 8, 2025, according to court records. Johnson is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025 for a hearing.

• John David Sours, of Luray, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for the possession of a Schedule I/II drug. The offense and an arrest occurred on March 6, 2025, according to court records. Sours is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2025 to enter a plea.

• Lindsay Brianne Sours, of Stanley, Va., was indicted on a Class 5 felony for the possession of a Schedule I/II drug. The offense occurred on April 23, 2025, according to court records, with an arrest on April 24, 2025. Sours is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025 for a hearing.

• Robert Junior Starks, of Luray, Va., was indicted on a Class 6 felony for driving while intoxicated (DWI, third or subsequent offense). The offense and an arrest occurred on April 25, 2025, according to court records. Starks is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025 to appoint counsel.

• Kendall Marie-Blake Via, of Luray, Va., was indicted on a Class 6 felony for driving while intoxicated (DWI, third or subsequent offense). The offense occurred on May 31, 2025, according to court records, with an arrest on June 1, 2025. Via is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025 for a hearing.

Grand jury hearings are held the first Wednesday of each month in Page County Circuit Court.
