LURAY, Dec. 15 — Just after 11 a.m. on Thursday, the Town of Luray posted on its Facebook page that the Town’s annual Christmas parade would be pushed back one day, to its rain date of Friday, Dec. 16.
Luray’s Christmas parade will begin at the same scheduled time of 6 p.m. on Friday, and travel from the Broad Street intersection eastward up Main Street to Blue Bell Avenue.
Dozens of parade participants will be glad to dodge the wet and icy conditions on Thursday evening that follow hours of a wintery mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain that began in the early morning hours.
Minutes after Luray announced rescheduling its Christmas parade, Page County Public Schools sent out an alert that all evening and after-school activities planned for Thursday were cancelled.
No announcement has been made about school on Friday — the final school day before the winter break, which extends through Jan. 1. Teachers are scheduled to return from winter break on Monday, Jan. 2, while students return Tuesday, Jan. 3.
At 11 a.m. on Thursday, Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative was only reporting 20 outages for Page County. However, there were about 2,000 across the region, including 1,230 in Frederick County.
