Mail sack found

Shenandoah river

May 2, 1889 — Nearly a year ago the mail carrier between this place and New Market lost the mail sack in the Shenandoah River.

Though careful search was made for it at the time it could not be found. One day last week a son of Mr. John N. Mauck found it washed nearly ashore but a short distance below where it was lost.

The mail matter was of course pretty thoroughly destroyed, though some of the letters could be partially deciphered.
