LURAY, Oct. 28 — On Friday, Luray High School senior Jaidyn McClung was once again named “Player of the Year” in the Bull Run District. Selections for the 2022 All-District volleyball squad were released by district officials on Friday.

The Bulldogs’ senior leader won top honors in the Bull Run for a second consecutive year and was the only local volleyball player named to the All-District first team. Senior teammate Lindsey Bly and LHS sophomore Caydence Cave both earned second team, All-District honors.

On Thursday, East Rockingham defeated Clarke, 3-1, to claim the Bull Run District tournament title. The Eagles placed three on the All-District first team — sophomore Alliyah McNair, senior Madelyn Williams and senior Bria Berriochoa — and one other Eagle on the second team, junior Kate Simpkins.

Clarke and Central both placed two players on the first team — junior Anna Spencer and senior Natalie Rodriguez for Clarke; and juniors Bailey Sheetz and Peyton Dinardo for Central.

Rounding out first team volleyball selections were Madison junior Whitlee Swink and Rappahannock senior Savannah Loving. Other second team selections included Strasburg senior Hannah Kepler, Central senior Chloe Hensley, Mountain View senior Annika Dellinger, Rappahannock sophomore Summer Shacelford, Clarke sophomore Allie Lynch, Rappahannock junior Abigail Atkins and Madison junior Gravie Cooke.

While Clarke was the district tournament runner-up, Central finished in second to East Rock for the regular season.

The Region B tournament kicks off Tuesday night with No. 6 Luray (14-8) traveling to third-seeded Buckingham (9-6). The Knights compete in the James River District and had four of their losses this season come at the hands of Nottoway (17-2) — the top team in the James River — while the other two losses were to Appomattox.

In Tuesday’s other Region B quarterfinals — No. 1 East Rockingham will host No. 8 Mt. View, No. 4 Central will host No. 5 Stuarts Draft, and No. 7 Madison travels to No. 2 Clarke.
