Mini-mall opens

April 18, 1991 — Some large chain department stores have closed in big cities, leaving only empty buildings. A remedy for the big buildings is to re-open them as mini- malls within the walls of the former department stores.

Although Luray is a long way from being considered a big city, the Antique Mall, located at 49 E. Main St., is a combination of the old and the new. Vendors sell their antiques and crafts here under one roof.

“I saw in other areas of the country how well crafts and antiques went together,” said owner Leroy Gray. “I’ve been a resident here for two years and I’m aware of the fine quality of artisans in this area.”
