Page County voters follow statewide trend in Republican primary

LURAY, Aug. 4 — The 860 ballots cast in Page County for Tuesday’s Republican primary mirrored statewide results. Bert Mizusawa earned a clear majority in the three-way race to see who will face incumbent Democrat Mark Warner for his U.S. Senate seat in November.
Mizusawa drew 498 votes (58.5 percent) in Page County, with the largest support coming in District 2 (Luray). Statewide, the Republican nominee earned 51.5 percent of the ballots in the three-way race with 122,466 votes. According to the 2026 Virginia Mercury Voter Guide, Mizusawa is a retired Major General of the United States Army who commanded a Combined Joint Interagency Task Force in Afghanistan and served as a senior advisor to the director of the Central Intelligence Agency. His priorities include curbing government spending, advancing pro-military policy and simplifying the tax code to make life more affordable for citizens.
David Williams, who had a 30-year career in military service and intelligence, finished second with 29 percent of the vote statewide (68,911) and 25.5 percent in Page County (217). Kim Farmington, a CPA and entrepreneur who retired as CEO of the federal First Responder Network Authority, came in third with just 19.6 percent of the vote statewide (46,661) and 16 percent in Page (137).
Locally, there were 860 ballots cast in the single-race Republican Primary on Aug. 4 among 18,158 registered voters in Page County — a voter turnout of only 4.7 percent. However, that’s slightly better than the statewide voter turnout of 3.7 percent, with 238,016 ballots cast among more than 6.4 million registered voters in the commonwealth. Across Virginia, 71 percent of ballots were cast on Election Day (Aug. 4), while 29 percent voted either early in-person or by mail.
Republicans also selected candidates for the House of Representatives in the following primaries:
- 5th District — John J. McGuire won a two-way race with 84.3 percent of the ballots.
- 7th District — Doug A. Ollivant won a three-way race with 56.7 percent of the vote.
- 10th District — Dave T. Beckwith won a four-way race with 72.5 percent of the ballots.
Democrats also selected candidates for the House of Representatives in the following primaries on Tuesday:
- 1st District — Shannon L. Taylor won a seven-way race with 53 percent of the vote.
- 2nd District — Elaine G. Luria won a four-way race with 80.4 percent of the ballots.
- 5th District — Tom S.P. Perriello won a three-way race with 79.8 percent of the vote.
- 8th District — Donald S. Beyer Jr. won a five-way race with 67.6 percent of the ballots.
- 9th District — Joy A. Powers won a three-way race with 51.8 percent of the vote.
