~ Press release issued by Page County Sheriff’s Office
LURAY, June 24 — The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Culpeper Field Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting which occurred yesterday (June 23, 2026) on Honeyville Road in Page County.
Page County law enforcement initially responded to Honeyville Road after receiving a call for a welfare check. While at the scene, they encountered a 49-year-old Page County woman, who then barricaded herself in a residence.
During attempts to negotiate with the subject, the woman, who was armed, came outside and was encountered by personnel maintaining a safety perimeter. During this time, she placed the gun to her head and fired a shot. The shot is believed to have only grazed the woman. The subject then attempted to run, and a taser was deployed, but was unsuccessful.
The woman then raised the firearm a second time and two members of the Page County Sheriff’s Office discharged their firearms, striking the subject.
Law enforcement then began medical treatment, but the woman died at the scene.
The deputies involved were placed on administrative leave, according to departmental policy.
The incident remains under investigation at this time and there will be no additional release from the Page County Sheriff’s Office.
