Just after noon on Wednesday, Page County Public Schools made the following post on their website:

“With the girls’ win last night, we have decided that in order for Page County to best show our support, that ALL schools will be CLOSED tomorrow, Thursday, March 12, 2020. We encourage everyone to make the trip to Richmond to show the girls support and put Page County on the map!!”

Large crowds have followed the Luray Bulldogs throughout the postseason, and those crowds have grown as they’ve worked their way to a 29-1 record — the best in school history — and inch closer to the school’s first state title in girls basketball.

More than 1,000 attended the 2A state semifinal against Strasburg on Tuesday night at Page County High School. More than 500 followed the action being live-streamed by the school system on its Facebook page.

Tickets will be available at VCU’s Siegel Center on Thursday.

Luray (29-1), the Region 2B champion will tip-off at 12:30 p.m. with Gate City (19-11), the  Region D runner-up. Gate City defeated Union High School, the Region D champions, in the semifinal round Tuesday night.

  1. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, recommended against large gatherings during a congressional hearing on Wed. Maybe not the best idea.
