LURAY, Nov. 22 — This week “Page Valley Livin'” visits with Gina Hilliard, president of the Luray-Page County Chamber of Commerce, to discuss the “Shop Small” promotion to support local businesses, and the upcoming “Holiday Festival” hosted by the Chamber at the Luray-Page County Visitors Center from 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1.

In the fifth installment of our weekly series, we reveal how shopping local this holiday season could lead to a local $500 FREE shopping spree. The Chamber president shares details about how to turn in your receipts for a chance to win the big prize. The promotion runs through Dec. 17.

In addition, Hilliard shares what’s in store for this year’s “Holiday Festival” at the depot…or what we refer to as a touch of the “Hallmark channel in Luray” coming up next Friday, Dec. 1. The Chamber has planned a host of activities and attractions for the event that should set the tone for the 2023 holiday season with s’mores by the fire, carols being sung, and photos with Santa.

The local Chamber president also agrees to play “The5Ws” with us, as we quiz on a holiday version of Who, What, When, Where and Why. We discuss upcoming family meals, what she’s thankful for, and when she starts to decorate for Christmas.

As always, we’ll look at “the week that was” in the Page Valley with a review of headlines, including news of a new campground ordinance and approval of a new daycare center. In sports, we’ll tell you about a state runner-up and other All-State performances in cross country, and a softball player that has signed on to play Division II college softball in South Carolina.

The Weekend Ahead looks at community Thanksgiving dinners coming up Thursday and Friday.

(Page Valley Livin’ ~ Episode 5 was recorded on Tuesday, Nov. 21 and first aired Wednesday, Nov. 22).

Coming up on Page Valley Livin’… we’re trying to schedule a sit down with a local teenage hunter who’s already known all across the country and beyond.

The aim and purpose of these videos are to provide more information about more things that make up the wonderful place we call the Page Valley of Virginia. Serious issues will be handled seriously, while lighter issues may offer more opportunity to have some fun. There is no theme or agenda other than promoting the Page Valley, and trying to better inform the people who both live here and those who love to visit.
