March 26, 1987 — A photograph of Parks Barber Shop, located on the corner of West Main and Bank streets in Luray, and its owner and barber James E. Parks, is among the photographs on exhibit at the Gatehouse Gallery at Mount Vernon College in Washington.

The show is part of a 40-year retrospective exhibition of photography titled “Shapes and Shadows — Signs and Symbols,” taken by Lowell Anson Kenyon.

The Parks photograph was selected by a public opinion poll as a favorite out of 100. It will appear in one of Kenyon’s books and be part of a special exhibition of his work that was taken in Virginia.

Kenyon says he will continue to take photographs in the Luray area for several years and hopes to use more in books and exhibitions.
