NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
LURAY PLANNING COMMISSION
PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO ZONING ORDINANCE
NOTICE is hereby given pursuant to § 15.2-2204 of the Code of Virginia, as amended, that Luray’s Planning Commission shall hold a public hearing on July 15, 2026 at 7 p.m. The public hearing shall be conducted in the Luray Town Council Chambers located at 45 East Main Street in the Town of Luray, Virginia.
Public comment may also be submitted until 12:00 p.m. on July 15, 2026, through any of the following means: Email: bchrisman@townofluray.com; Mail: Luray Planning Commission, Attention: Bryan Chrisman, Post Office Box 629, Luray, Virginia, 22835; Hand delivery: Place in the exterior DROP BOX in the alcove located at the front of the Town’s offices facing Main Street; or Phone: (540)743-5511. All comments must include the commentor’s name and address to be read aloud at the hearing. This hearing may be viewed live online through the Livestream Meetings link at townofluray.com. All normal Rules of Procedure will be followed.
The purpose of the hearing is to receive public comment on proposed amendments to the zoning ordinance set forth in Appendix A of the Town Code. The proposed amendments are summarized as follows:
- Definitions would be added for storage warehouse, public utilities, and data center.
- Minimum off-street parking requirements for residential uses would be amended to require one parking space for each bedroom.
- Off-street parking requirements for townhome developments would be consolidated and apply to all townhomes.
- Provisions would be added regarding solar facilities that are required to comply with recent changes to state law.
Copies of the proposed zoning amendments and the Town’s zoning ordinance are available at the Town of Luray’s Office, 45 East Main Street, Luray, Virginia. These items may be viewed between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday – Friday, and may also be found online at the Town’s website www.townofluray.com. We do not need these solar panels and these data center taking our farmland and water These things are no good for our county or citizens We need our supervisor s to vote against this
Absolutely every inch of farmland in this country needs to be preserved. We have to understand the geographical structure of our lands can only support a limited amount of building. We are destroying our water sources. You cannot make more water, you cannot make more earth. Wake up people.
The whole focus of this community is twofold: agriculture and tourism. Adding solar panel farms, data centers and other developments destroy the very character that supports these industries. Has anyone spent any time “near” a data center? They are very loud and everyone in the county will feel like they have neuropathy from vibrating sounds bouncing throughout the valley. Has anyone addressed what will happen WHEN, not IF, the companies proposing these solar farms go bankrupt and there’s no one to pay the billions in losses when the panels leach toxic chemicals into the water table, destroying the values of homes throughout the valley? Has anyone even suggested a $500 billion bond being required to cover losses like this and the diminution in value for homes throughout the valley if a data center creates noise pollution? If not, please–everyone ask these questions. At the very least, this county and town should impose draconian bond requirements on these people–they’re just interested in coming here for cheaper land. They assume the locals are too dumb to recognize the downstream negative impacts these facilities inevitably impose. Time to wake up, people. These should never be allowed here. They will provide a handful of jobs and a lifetime of losses.
Board of Supervisors the PEOPLE are speaking. We DO NOT want any Data Centers in this County.
