Railway gates in Stanley

railroad crossing

April 29, 1966 — Work is scheduled to begin this week on the installation of safety traffic gates at the Norfolk and Western Railway crossing on Main Street in Stanley.

Gates at the crossing have been urged for sometime by the Town Council and civic organizations of the community. A number of serious accidents have occurred there in past years.

At present a bell and blinker lights are the only warnings of a train approaching the crossing.

It is expected to take three weeks for completion.
