SHENANDOAH, June 2 — Page County High School’s Jocelyne Rinker played a huge part in the Panthers capturing their second-straight Region 2B title in softball on Friday.
The Division I talent, who will play for Radford University next spring, went a perfect 3-for-3, including two home runs and a double. The first team All-District and first team All-Region (just announced on Tuesday) first baseman batted in four of the Panthers’ six runs in a 6-0 shutout victory over Strasburg.
On Tuesday, the senior first baseman then followed that up with a 2-for-2 performance in the state quarterfinal with two doubles and two runs scored in a 3-1 game with only four Panther hits.
Rinker is both an offensive and defensive talent that will now lead Page County (23-3) in the VHSL Class 2 semifinals — the Final Four — against Tazwell (17-4-1) at 10 a.m. this Friday, June 9 at the Botetourt Sports Complex near Troutville.
If the Panthers beat the Region D champions on Friday, they will advance to the Class 2 state championship for the second-straight year at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 10.
