Pause to honor our national symbol June 14

American flag

Dear Editor:

In just a few days from now, on June 14, our nation will again pause to honor our national symbol, “The Stars and Stripes”, “Old Glory”, the “Red, White and Blue”, the great flag of the United States of America.

By whatever name we identify our nation’s flag, the importance of this well recognized symbol is that it stands for unity, power, and it gives us purpose to defend it for all of the freedoms and liberties it represents and that we, often casually, enjoy.

Our forever banner should always remind us, too, of the life sacrifices that have been made over the past 247 years to forever guarantee all of the good for our citizens that it represents. Since the Revolution War many lives have been heroically given to protect our Flag and its virtues.

I ask every household, every business, and every American to proudly display, post, or hoist our inspiring national emblem every day, but especially on this day, Flag Day, June 14.

For God and Country,

Richard Worrell ~ Commander, American Legion Post #22, Luray

  1. What a wonderful reminder of what the flag stands for, and to remember the sacrifices made by many to honor it and to make this nation strong. Other countries take advantage of the accomplishments made here; of the wealth we have, others see it as the land of opportunity too. Love the flag, love the nation, protect it from failure; and entrust it to God.
