Serious runaway

HISTORY-Lee highway builders

April 3, 1890 — Last Thursday evening as Joseph and Isaac Rothgeb, sons of Mr. Frank Rothgeb, were returning from Sperryville, where they had been to take a load of lime, their team ran off, and in their efforts to check it both received severe injuries.

Dr. Amiss, who dressed their wounds, says that one of them had gashes about the neck and back part of the head, which reminded him of the sabre wounds he had so often seen during the war.

Both were badly bruised, though we are glad to state that they are now improving.

The horses started just this side of the toll gate on the Blue Ridge and ran about two miles before they were overtaken.
