HISTORY train Luray

November 5, 1987 — Shenandoah firemen examined burning embers at Shenandoah Memorial Stadium early Thursday morning after a fire swept through the facility destroying all wooden structures. Three trucks, one salvage unit, two tankers and an engine responded to the call.

Authorities have determined the cause of the fire to be arson.

Investigator Charles Cavey said that the initial investigation showed the origin of the fire to be in the grandstand.

The Page County Sheriff’s Department is asking that any individual who may have been by the ball park between 1 a.m. and 1:49 a.m. to contact the department.
