June 25, 1987 — The Shenandoah Homemaker Club honored Virginia Melton as Shenandoah’s “Woman of the Year” during the group’s 12th annual summer banquet Saturday evening.

Mrs. Melton, a retired Page County school teacher, was presented a corsage, a certificate and a white crocheted basket with jewelry.

In making the presentation, Margaret Kite, club president, said “I can’t think of anyone who is more deserving of this honor. We commend you highly for your valued services in the county and we are pleased to have you among us.”

Mrs. Melton recently was named the outstanding volunteer by the Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging.
