May 18, 1989The Town of Stanley will soon become the new owner of the Hawksbill Recreation Center.

Last Wednesday night, the town council voted to lease the center with an option to buy at a total cost of $125,000.

Town Manager Martha Graves said the town wants to work out all financing arrangements, including possible donations and grants, before actually purchasing the property.

The recreation center, which includes 27 acres of land, a pool, two cottages, a meeting room and a well, was listed for $155,000, but the six owners of the corporation which held the property have decided to give $5,000 each back to the town.

The vote was 4-0, with councilmen Charles Buracker and Louis Bosley, who are part of the corporation which owns the recreation area, not voting.
