Stanley mayor resigns

Town of Stanley

April 19, 1990 — Stanley Mayor J. Vance Bryant will resign May 1 because he is moving outside the town limits.

According to Town Manager Martha Graves, Vice Mayor Charles Buracker will become acting mayor through at least July, when the three winners in the May election are slated to begin their four-year terms.

Bryant said he recently received an offer on his home in town, and with the housing market as unpredictable as it is, he decided to sell.

Buracker, 62, served as acting mayor in 1980 and 1984. He has been a town councilman since 1975 after serving on the council from 1963 to 1967 and 1969 to 1971. He retired as a laboratory technician at Merck and Co. in Elkton in January.
