STANLEY — The Stanley Volunteer Fire Department answered 50 calls for the month of October. Fire Chief Terry A. Pettit reported that there were 15 emergency calls, 12 medical calls and 23 non-emergency calls. Total calls for the year are 514.
A breakdown of the calls includes 12 medical calls, four standby control burns, four smoke investigations, four calls for lock outs, three control burns, two vehicle accidents, two structure fires (one trailer, one house), two automatic alarms, two brush fires, two wash downs, checked two chimneys and one grass fire, fire safety presentation, mulch fire, standby landing zone, remove tree from roadway, standby funeral, car fire, tree fire, oil spill, parade and standby fireworks display.
An average of 12 members responded to each emergency call, and an average of five members responded to each medical call. The most members on an emergency call were 20, and the least was eight.
There were 717 miles placed on apparatus, and there was no fire damage for the month. The department assisted the Stanley Rescue Squad on nine calls, Page County EMS on one call, Shenandoah Fire Department on one call, Luray Fire Department one call, and U.S. Forest Service on one call. The department was assisted by the Stanley Rescue Squad on two calls and Page County EMS on one call.
One car was totaled due to a vehicle accident.
Members responding to the most emergency calls were Chief Pettit 15, Mike Lloyd 13, Ethan Knight 10, Colin Huffman 9, Mitch Martin 9, Jason Pettit 8, Caleb Purdham 8, Bruce Stoneberger 8 Jason Housden 7 and Chance Wallace 7.
Members answering the most medical calls were Chief Pettit 11, Mike Lloyd 9, Ariel Beales 4, Ethan Knight 4, Caleb Purdham 4 and Daniel Rhinehart 4.
Members answering the most non-emergency calls were Chief Pettit 17, Mike Lloyd 15, Ethan Knight 9, Jason Housden 7 and Colin Huffman 6.
