Thomas McLyn Strickler

Age 82, Shenandoah, Va.

Thomas Maclyn Strickler, 82, of Shenandoah died Friday December 2, 2022 at his home.

Born in Luray, Va. on May 7, 1940, he was the son of the late Elbert and Oneida Strickler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Carol Lee Strickler; his brothers Willis R. Strickler, D. Eugene Strickler, Howard Calvin Strickler.

He grew up in a family of five loving and rambunctious boys.

He was a graduate of Luray High School and Shenandoah University. He had a great love of teaching and education. He spent most of his career as a band director in Kalamazoo, MI and worked for McFadden Music Company in Fayetteville, NC repairing brass instruments. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where he served as an usher and was on the church council. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by a brother E. Carroll Strickler, Jr.; nephews Scott Strickler, Douglas Fischer; nieces Erin Williams, Sarah McAnulty, close first cousin Donna Hylton. In addition to his survivors, he made many friends by having breakfast daily at Rudy’s Diner, and having dinner daily at Mama Mia’s. The family would like to send a special thanks to Tyler Olsen for taking Thomas to his appointments and looking out for him.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Shenandoah with Pastor Tarja Stevenson officiating.

Arrangements are being handled by the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, Va.
