Two-vehicle accident on Route 340 Business Saturday night leads to one fatality, six injuries

STANLEY — Fire Chief Terry A. Pettit reported that the Stanley Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle accident with entrapment on Route 340 business near the intersection of Alan’s Road at 10:05 p.m. on Saturday, July 8.

The accident just north of Stanley resulted in one fatality after the vehicle leaked fuel and caught fire, according to Chief Pettit. The male victim was trapped until being pulled out by two deputies with the Page County Sheriff’s Office and an officer with the fire department, who all arrived on the scene shortly after the accident occurred. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Six others involved in the two-vehicle accident were injured and transported to Page Memorial Hospital.

As of Monday, the Virginia State Police have yet to issue a report on the accident, and the name of the deceased has not been released. The cause of the accident is unknown at this point, and state police have not issued a statement on any current or pending charges.

Page County EMS, the Stanley Rescue Squad and the Luray Rescue Squad all responded to the scene Saturday evening. The Virginia Department of Transportation was contacted to detour traffic on Route 340, which was blocked for about four hours.
