June 21, 1990 — For those waiting for the U.S. 340 bypass it’s a good sign. But that’s all it is for the moment.

The Virginia Department of Transportation recently placed signs at either end of Battle Creek Road (Va. 615) which touted the project, along with a cost estimate of $5.38 million.

VDOT Luray Resident Engineer Don Ripley said Monday that these are indeed a sign of things to come.

The U.S. 340 bypass will be 3.2 miles long and will be classified as a primary road, as opposed to Va. 615’s status as a secondary street.
