~ Press release issued by Page County Public Schools – Saturday, Feb. 6

On January 22, 2021, Page County High School was utilized as a Vaccination Point of Distribution (POD) for the health district in which Page County resides. In total, 1,451 vaccines were distributed to residents 65 and over, school staff, and others to help return us to normal and to help schools return to more in-person instruction.

The vaccine that was utilized requires a second dose. The Virginia Department of Health will once again use Page County High School as a POD.

To avoid some of the delays, and to streamline administration of the vaccine, the second dose will be administered over two days, Friday, Feb. 19, and Wednesday, Feb. 24.

Those receiving their second dose of the vaccine will be scheduled by the Virginia Department of Health rather than allowing an open sign-up.

To ensure that students and parents will not be delayed in traffic, and to be sure that the Virginia Department of Health and our local partners are not adversely impacted, Page County High School and Page County Middle School will utilize Remote Learning on Friday, February 19, 2021. Wednesday, February 24, 2021 , is already scheduled as a Remote Learning Day.

The clinic will be organized by the Virginia Department of Health and is not a school function.

Due to the ventilation area in the gym being separate from the rest of the school’s ventilation, and the system ventilating directly to the outside, the gymnasium will again be used as the staging area for the vaccine. The gymnasium will be isolated from the rest of the school. Neither those receiving the vaccine nor those administering the vaccine will be allowed access to the rest of the school.

The Virginia Department of Health will be disinfecting during and after the vaccinations. Deep cleaning will take place after the vaccination events.

Portable bathrooms will be provided outside of the school.

  1. Second dose? That’s just peachy. I’m in the high-risk category and a diabetic, and I have yet to see an available appointment for the first dose.

  2. ditto, Don. I’m also high risk, diabetic and hypertension. I’ve been in isolation since March 2020 – going on a year now. I call every day and fill out the online request every day the moment the lines and site open. No help. Yikes.
