The Comer-Jones VFW Post 621 Auxiliary is hosting a fundraiser called “You’ve Been Flagged” during the month of July. Members of the community are being surprised with a “flagging,” where flags will be placed in their yard to fly high and promote patriotism. Twenty –one flags are being placed to represent the 21-gun salute and are illuminated so they can be seen at night.

Upon making a donation of any amount, the “flagged” person has the opportunity to name the next person to be “flagged.” The flags will be moved to the next location within two to four days.

Mayor of Luray Jerry Dofflemyer, Luray’s Chief of Police Bow Cook, and Page County Circuit Court Clerk Grayson Markowitz have already been “flagged” along with numerous others. Who knows who will be next — it could be you.

The mission of the Auxiliary is to give unwavering support to our heroes. The Auxiliary is currently trying to raise funds to help with the purchase of a new riding lawn mower at a cost of $5,000 so the grounds at the Post can continue to be maintained and well-groomed.

Anyone wishing to make a donation toward this project may send a check made payable to Comer-Jones VFW Post 621 Auxiliary and mail it to: c/o Shirley Fleharty, 240 Forest Hills Dr., Luray VA  22835.

For more information, contact Shirley Fleharty at (540) 742-1205 or Susan Dinon at (540) 244-6008.
