Winfred Julian “PawPaw” Chrisman, 82, of Stanley, died peacefully on Sunday, December 17, 2023, with his family by his side. Born May 1, 1941, he was a lifelong resident of Stanley. He was the son of the late Marvin E. and Ruby Chrisman of Luray.
Winfred was employed at the Tannery in Luray, Old Virginia and Viscose in Front Royal. He retired from Wrangler in Luray.
Winfred loved deer hunting, the outdoors and enjoyed spending time with his great-grandchildren. Even closer to his final days, he still loved to play blocks with his great-granddaughter, Brystol. Winfred was an avid sports fan, especially basketball and baseball. His favorite was Duke. He played softball with the Old Timers League in Stanley in his younger days.
He is survived by a daughter, Julie Chrisman and friend Gerald Dodson of Stanley; a son, Shannon Chrisman and wife Stephanie of Stanley; four brothers, Gene E. Chrisman and wife Naomi of Front Royal, Thomas A. Chrisman of Staunton, Jerry W. Chrisman and wife Brenda of Luray, and Marvin E. Chrisman and wife Gretchen of Frederick, MD; five sisters, Dorothy W. “Dot” Van Hyning of Shenandoah, Alice C. Short of Luray, Phyllis E. Good and husband John of Shenandoah, Barbara A. Shuler and husband Robert of Verona, and Shirley C. Good and husband Gary of Luray; six grandchildren, Jessica Vaughan and husband John Owen, Vanessa Chrisman, Shannon Tyler Chrisman, Ashley Patrick and husband Jay, Jeremy Becraft, and Jamie Becraft and friend Kady Stapp; and seven great-grandchildren, Brystol Owen, John Owen, Aleigha Chrisman, Graclynn Chrisman, Hampton Patrick, Wellington Patrick and Pressli Trowbridge.
Winfred was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Chrisman; and a sister, Glenna Mae Housden.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20, at the Bradley Funeral Home by Pastor Charles Turner, with visitation one hour prior to the service, from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Luray.
