Accidentally shot in the dark

May 25, 1961 — Albert Hitt, 45, of Luray, was hospitalized after being accidentally shot by a companion near Timberville early Sunday morning.

Mr. Hitt suffered wounds in his arm and was taken to the R.M. Hospital, Harrisonburg. His condition was reported as satisfactory.

According to reports, there were five men together in a home when they thought they heard someone outside. Three men went out to investigate and Hitt apparently was separated from one of the others who shot several times in the dark. They then discovered that Mr. Hitt had been struck.

The shooting was termed an accident and no warrants were issued.
