LURAY, July 24 — At a recent meeting of American Legion Post 22, three presentations were made by William Watson, Commander of Department of Virginia, District 15.
The first award presented was the American Legion Membership Retention/Renewal Certificate. Post 22 scored over 90 percent in that category.
Two other awards were presented for the first time in Post 22’s history.
“These awards could not have been received without the dedication and hard work of the active members of Post 22,” Commander Richard Worrell said.
The first plaque was the “American Legion Americanism” award. This is presented to the members of Post 22 for seeking to inspire patriotism, good citizenship, flag etiquette, civic instruction in schools, community service and youth activities such as Boys State, Girls State, and giving an annual scholarship to a deserving high school senior.
The second plaque was the “American Legion Children and Youth” award. This is presented to the Post that works to ensure that any child of a veteran in need of care and protection shall receive such proper aid and service in a timely manner, strengthening the family unit, and extending support to organizations that provide care for children and youth, all while looking to the needs of young people in the community.
“The members of Post 22 want to acknowledge the support received by both businesses and private individuals of Page County, for which the membership is very grateful to receive,” Worrell concluded.
American Legion Post 22 meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month at 106 Zerkel St. in Luray.
