Deaf mute killed

Luray-Main St old

May 26, 1887 — Thos. Sites, a deaf mute who lived with Thos. Naylor, two and a half miles south of Milnes, was killed on the railroad near that place last Tuesday evening about 3 o’clock.

Sites had just eaten his dinner and started to Elkton, walking the railroad track, when he was met by a freight train and almost instantly killed. His skull was crushed, but his body and face were but little bruised. Mr. Sites was about 28 years of age.

The locomotive by which he was killed lost its engineer, a man named Walton, by death from an accident the night before at Roanoke.
